Earth Berm House, Kuala Lumpur

A flat developer cut & fill site but with one redeeming feature – the site is raised 1m above the road which led to the idea of developing this potential benefit into an a densely planted earth berm.

This creates a green bank to the road and provides privacy and seclusion to the 4,000 sq ft off-form concrete house allowing the house to be as open as possible to the garden. The earth berm is continued into the site and around the house to root the house into the site.

It is planned to be a zero-energy house and A/C units will be replaced with a night-sky radiant cooling system to cool the house – the system will cool the spaces at night while in the daytime will continually transfer the heat from the roof into the pool to be evaporated without increasing the local air temperature.
